Lulu Bistrot French Restaurant Canggu
French cuisine has long been synonymous with fine dining and while there are some budget French restaurants on the island, Lulu is not one of them.
The ambience here is very much set for intimate occasions and the lighting is kept deliberately low for these purposes, so bring a date not a colleague.
The food is beautifully presented and there’s no doubt that if you’re looking for a menu to share with your Instagram followers, this is a great place to come.
We tried the braised lamb neck and seared snapper fillet and rounded things off with a cheese board and it was all wonderful.

Ina Re Restaurant
Ina Re is the Desa Kitsune compound and it’s not far from Batu Bolong Beach. You’re always greeted warmly and the hospitality is first rate throughout an evening here.
We were impressed with the way that the wait staff knew the menu and could confidently recommend dishes without hesitation.
There’s no doubt that we’d prefer a bigger wine list (and, perhaps, a sommelier to walk us through that list) but we’re being churlish, really, this is a fabulous place.
On Wednesday nights, they have a paella feast and you can try some dramatically different and exciting paella dishes.

Gente Italian Seafood Restaurant Canggu
An Italian seafood restaurant in Bali is obviously going to be a good thing but we were blown away with our experience at Gente.
We recommend going on Sundays when they have a live singer laying down some mellow accompaniments to the meal.
You know you’re in for a great moment in a restaurant when the menu is brief, simple and to the point – highlighting deep mastery of a few dishes.
The octopus with cauliflower puree was sublime and we thought the ceviche was very good too. But the highlight for us, was the home made tiramisu, it was amazing.

SKOOL Kitchen
SKOOL Kitchen is a pleasant restaurant with a nice view at sunset over the Indian Ocean and there’s no doubt that the setting is a cut above.
However, we did think that the atmosphere was a little pretentious for what it was – this is Bali not the Sorbonne and we don’t really expect a snooty attitude here.
The food is tasty enough though and the bone marrow was first-rate and the lamb was well prepared and cooked as we wanted it.
The cocktail list is decent enough too and it’s a nice place to sit and watch the world go by over a drink or two.

Sama Sama Prime
There are a wealth of amazing Japanese restaurants in Bali and you really do have to go a long way to stand out from the crowd and Sama Sama Prime has done just that.
They serve some of the finest meat on the island and if you’re a carnivore then a trip here should simply be mandatory.
We also loved their sushi rolls which use the freshest ingredients and are hand rolled while you’re there.
The interior is also amazing and you should find that you can grab some awesome shots for your Instagram before you dine.

Vore Restaurant And Bar Canggu
Vore is a relatively new addition to the Canggu dining scene and we are happy to report that it’s a fabulous addition too.
As the name suggests, there’s an emphasis on meat here and you can’t go wrong with their steaks or meat platters.
But don’t miss out on the zucchini blossom starters, they may not be meaty but they are yummy. We’d also grab a slice of the basque cheesecake (or two) to round things off.
We loved the unique interior of this place and we can’t wait to go back again in the future.

M. Mason Bar and Grill Canggu
This grill-based restaurant is one of Canggu’s staple fine dining favourites and for good reason, a trip to M Mason Bar & Grill is simply essential.
We can heartily recommend the 48-hour slow roasted beef ribs where the flavours are so intense and the meat simply slides from the bone when you raise an eyebrow at it.
The charcoal chicken is also wonderful and again, the flavour is out of this world. And you can’t go wrong with their truffled mac and cheese as a side dish.
The ambience is amazing too and we like to linger here a while after our meal over a few glasses of wine.

This lovely French restaurant has a lovely semi-open terraced area where you can dine surrounded by a lush local garden.
They’re very traditional here and you can enjoy old favourites such as Beef Wellington, Duck Confit, Onion Soup, Potato Gratin and much more.
If you’re looking for something a little lighter, for lunch, then a smoked salmon croissant followed by the lightest, tastiest pavlova in Bali is probably just what the doctor ordered.
This is refined and attractive place which sets great standards for service too. We’ll definitely be back again.

Luma
Luma is one of the place that people go to celebrate some of life’s big occasions and there’s no doubt that the restaurant is excellent for such nights out.
If there’s a big group of people seeking excellent food and wine, just book in advance and they’ll ensure you’re accommodated with style.
The food is very good too, the prawn and lobster pasta here is an absolute taste sensation and you’ll soon be hankering for more.
We like that they have an acoustic band playing in the background too, it sets exactly the right tone for a memorable night out.

Billy Ho Japanese
This classy place is run by one of the island’s celebrity chefs, Will Meyrick, and it’s all about inventive Japanese cuisine.
The setting is a cozy kitchen with one of the best cocktail lists ever put together. They offer a set menu with cocktail pairings and it’s very much worth trying.
The staff are super helpful and more than happy to help with any dietary restrictions that you may be facing (it’s possible to swap out certain products entirely).
It’s definitely on the pricey side for Bali, but sometimes you just want to push the boat out and this is the ideal spot for a real treat.

MAIZE
MAIZE is one of the most inventive Latin American restaurants that we’ve ever had the good fortune to visit and if you love world class tacos, you’re going to find them here.
The food is always presented in a way to ensure that it lights up your Instagram feed without making you feel like you’re working too hard to impress.
One thing that everyone loves about MAIZE is the quality of the cocktail list and you can enjoy a few drinks while listening to their live musician before and after you dine.
Also, make sure to leave some room for their churros, who knew a simple donut could be this good?
Note: Maize is temporarily under refurbishment and it is meant to be reopening in the high season of 2025. However, we’d strongly suggest that you contact this venue and confirm that it has reopened before you travel.

KONG
KONG is contemporary chic and it’s an outstanding addition to the Canggu dining scene. It’s a well lit upscale bistro that looks amazing inside and out.
We’d be happy to take a romantic date to this place as it feels intimate and cozy. The dishes are really delicious and there’s a real level of attention to detail when it comes to creating flavours that wow.
The beef tartare here is fresh and vibrant and we liked that you were supplied with condiments if you wanted to make adjustments to the tartare.
And the cocktails are not only beautiful to look at but they pack a fairly hefty alcoholic punch too, Kong is great.

Monsoon
Monsoon is a wonderful party restaurant in the FINNS Beach Club complex near Berawa Beach and it has the most widely varied menu of any of the restaurants on our list.
That’s because Monsoon can draw on the skills of seven different kitchens! So, if you want a meal that’s memorable for the food and the fun – this is the place to go.
We can’t get enough of their Thai sticky pork belly or the delectable Japanese gyoza but there’s so much to choose from that you’re bound to find your own new favourite dish.
There’s also an extensive selection of cocktails and wine, and there’s nothing quite like toasting the sunset with a glass of champagne at Monsoon.
