Our Top Instagrammable Spots In Canggu
Canggu is packed with great places to take photographs, but we wanted to give you a heavily curated selection of the very best spots to fill your Instagram feed.
FINNS Beach Club: The Ultimate Beachfront Photo Op
You simply can’t go to Canggu and not visit FINNS Beach Club. It’s the area’s most world-renowned destination, and it’s synonymous with Instagram-worthy views and moments.
It’s located on the stunning Berawa Beach and is celebrated for its iconic bamboo rooftop design, 170 meters of oceanfront views and a luxurious but laid-back and party-friendly vibe.
It’s open every day (except Nyepi) from 11 a.m. to midnight, and the adults-only beach club provides free entry to every guest, so it’s accessible to everyone who wants that ultimate shot of Bali’s beach club scene.
Why It’s Instagrammable
FINNS is a photographer’s dream; it blends natural beauty with world-class chic designs. The club’s infinity pools reflect the hues of the sky and ocean and create a superb backdrop for your photos.
The bamboo architecture gives everything that touch of tropical flair, and the vibrant beachfront setting with its luxe daybeds and swaying palm trees screams “vacation baby!”
It doesn’t matter whether you pose by the pool with a cocktail in your hand or capture the sunset as the sun drops down behind the horizon of the Indian Ocean, every angle in FINNS Beach Club is perfect.
Photo Tips
- Sunset shots: there is no better time of day to get some amazing images in FINNS than sunset, the fiery pinks, oranges, reds and purples of the skies are incredible. Get near the water’s edge and go with a nice, dramatic silhouette shot with the sunset as background.
- Poolside glamour: snag yourself a spot near the infinity pool and use the reflection of the ocean and palm trees to elevate and add depth and layers to your images.
- Bamboo vibes: frame the shot under the iconic bamboo roof and get that architectural moment that screams “we’re in Bali!”
Insider Tips
- Cameras: Unless you have prior written permission to shoot using another camera, you can only take your smartphone or action cam into FINNS. Leave drones, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, etc., at home in your hotel.
- Book online: if you want a super comfy daybed, book one in advance, then you can pick exactly where you will sit and get a deal on the reservation. There’s no charge for the seat, but you do have to agree to a minimum spend.
- Think FINNS VIP Beach Club: if you want a bit of extra luxury and glamour, opt for an exclusive private cabana with its own private pool for the ultimate Instagram-ready setup.
Echo Beach: Sunset Serenity And Surfer Vibes
It’s not too far from FINNS, and Echo Beach is a must-visit if you want some raw, natural beauty in your photos. It’s known for its black sand shoreline and powerful waves. This beach is a big favourite of photographers and surfers. The rugged coast, which is dotted with volcanic rock,s offers a striking contrast to the vibrant sunset, and it’s a prime spot for Instagram gold!
Why It’s Instagrammable
Echo Beach is less polished and more untamed than the other beaches in Canggu. The crashing waves and dramatic rocks offer a dynamic backdrop, while there’s still a hint of authentic Balinese charm here too. The laid-back vibe on this beach is ideal for grabbing some candid shots of friends and family or for shooting action-packed surfing shots.
Photo Tips
- Golden Hour – the best time to shoot is the late afternoon around the sunset (between 5.30 and 6.30 p.m.) when you get the nicest light on the beach, which provides a “warm glow” to things
- Surfing Action – the high-energy shot here is always of surfers riding waves, use burst mode and high shutter speeds to freeze the action
- Rock Formations – use the rocks as a natural frame for your images, or let your model pose on them for creative moments
- Local Flavours – get some shots in the warungs in the area nearby and enjoy a cold coconut on the sand for some authentic Bali vibes.
Insider Tips
- Avoid midday – it can get crowded at this time, and the harsh light isn’t great for photography
- Take a walk up the beach road and sample some of the local boutique stores, or take a surf lesson from one of the surf schools in this area
Batu Bolong Temple: Cultural Charms In Black And White
This small temple is tucked away on Canggu’s most popular beach, Pantai Batu Bolong, and while it’s not the biggest place, it’s still a nice display of spirituality and cultural beauty with a scenic aspect to it. It’s perched on a rocky outcrop and a nice way to grab something a little different in your Canggu images.
Why It’s Instagrammable
The low black stone architecture offers a lovely contrast to the ocean, particularly at low tide, when you get in close to the structure on foot. The intricate carvings combined with traditional Balinese offerings are an authentic cultural touchpoint for your photos, and the surrounding area provides a pleasing and dramatic setting.
Photo Tips
- Low tide for the win – get there at low tide to see the ocean lapping away at the base of the rocks on which the temple sits.
- Cultural details – make sure to zoom in on the carvings and offerings to get close-ups that highlight the heritage of the island.
- Framing – you can use the archway here to frame a sunset or ocean shot that stands out from the usual compositions
- Respectful poses – make sure your model is dressed modestly and avoid climbing on anything that’s related to the temple to ensure you respect local customs and traditions.
Insider Tips
- Check the tides before you visit – low tide really is your best time for this spot.
- Early mornings are best – there are no real crowds here in the early morning, particularly around sunrise, and that means you have space to really experiment with different angles for your shots
Canggu’s Rice Fields: Lush Green Dreamscapes
Sure, Canggu’s rice paddies aren’t as famous as the terraces of Jatiluwih and Tegallalang, but that’s no bad thing when you want to take breathtaking photos. You see, the fields around Jalan Nelayan and near Pererenan are lovely, and they’re not packed out with tourists trying to tick them off a list.
So, you get Bali at its photogenic best, and there are traditional farmers and even water buffaloes around to give your shots a truly authentic finish.
Why It’s Instagrammable
Lush, terraced rice fields offer a serene and somewhat surreal backdrop for nature lovers. The golden light of the early morning or the late afternoon gives rice paddies a beautiful glow, and the narrow paths and palm trees can be used to create depth and layering in your photos.
Photo Tips
- Mornings rock – sunrise is amazing for soft, diffused light and an absence of crowds, where you can really enjoy the greens of the fields.
- Pathways – walk the narrow paths between the rice fields and find amazing leading lines for use in your shots.
- Traditional elements – include farmers, water buffaloes, etc. (ask permission if it feels necessary) to get a real cultural touch to things.
- Wide-angle lenses – use wide-angle lenses to get all the beauty of the rice terraces into your images.
Insider Tips
- Comfortable shoes – comfy but water-resistant or waterproof are best, as these paths can get muddy.
- Respect the farmers – stick to the marked paths and don’t damage people’s crops and farms.
- Take a local guide – they can help you find the best places to shoot from and share insights about the local economy.
KYND Community: Plant-Based Paradise WIth Pastel Perfection
KYND Community is all colour and Bohemian charm, it’s one of the must-visit cafes in Canggu. It’s a haven for both foodies and photographers, and the vibrant pink walls, charming lush greenery, and Instagram-famous smoothie bowls here are awesome.
It’s the best place to capture the health-conscious vibe of the area that it’s become known for.
Why It’s Instagrammable
The pastel walls, tropical plants, quirky decor, neon signs, swing seats, etc., all add up to a place that’s begging to be photographed. The latte art and world-famous smoothie bowls are nearly too pretty to eat. The outdoor area is also a lovely addition to the scene.
Photo Tips
- Pink wall power – the pink wall with the KYND sign on it is one of the most iconic sights in the Bali cafe scene, and it makes for a super vibrant shot.
- Food styling – get a smoothie bowl or match latte, add some props (like sunnies or a hat) and make it a stylish flat layout.
- Swing seating – grab the swing seats to get a playful, candid image of you and your friends.
- Natural light – shoot in the mornings when the outdoor area is bathed in the softest, natural light for lovely colours and hues.
Insider Tips
- This is a stupidly popular spot for tourists and Instagrammers, so get there early in the morning.
- “KYND of Magic” smoothie bowls are the most photogenic food item
- Check their socials to see if they have any promos or specials that might add even more flair to your images
Warung Dandelion: Whimsical Garden Vibes
This charming local warung in the backstreets of Canggu has become a big hit with photographers in recent months. It’s got a fairy-tale-like vibe to it and a fabulous garden setting where you can really capture Bali’s Bohemian charm.
Why It’s Instagrammable
Fairy lights, wooden tables and tropical plants come together to create a dreamy, intimate setting. There are some lovely details like rabbit hutches and colourful cushions that give the whole thing a hint of whimsy and the traditional Balinese architecture doesn’t hurt, either.
Photo Tips
- Garden glow – you can shoot in the early evening here when the fairy lights are on and they offer a lovely hint of magic to the shoot.
- Foodie shots – local favourites like nasi goreng and international fare like tropical smoothies all look awesome for food photographers here.
- Cozy corners – you can pose in the cushioned seating areas for a decadent but Boho vibe.
- Detail shots – get the small details like rabbit hutches and woven decor to add some personality to your work.
Insider Tips
- You will need a reservation; this place fills up insanely fast most days.
- Order something striking (like the Balinese duck curry) for the best photogenic food touches for your shoot.
Canggu Street Murals: The Ultimate In Graffiti Hunting
Canggu is awesome for street art, and you can find lots of places to capture some of the local talent’s sprayed on work. Our favourite areas are Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong and Jalan Raya Canggu.
Why It’s Instagrammable
The graffiti here is bright and bold, and playful. The designs make them great for standalone shots or for a series of images. Whether they’re showcasing a giant tropical flower, a playful Balinese motif, or something more rebellious, these artworks give your images a modern, artistic flair.
The surrounding streets, packed with cafes and scooters, enhance that vibe.
Photo Tips
- Bold poses – your model should look to match the energy of the art, confident poses and bright outfits will make your photos pop.
- Clean compositions – frame your shots to focus on the murals, lose distracting elements like parked scooters.
- Golden hour – the light at sunrise or sunset can really enhance the colours in the art.
- Explore – wander down side streets to discover hidden murals, which are easier to photograph than those on main roads.
Insider Tips
- Take a coffee break, cases like Milk & Madu are perfect for a refreshment stop during the photo ops.
- Keep your eyes open for new work, the streets around Canggu literally change on a daily basis when it comes to street art.
Practical Tips For Your Canggu Instagram Adventure
Whether you’re in Canggu for a long period of time or a short one, you can enjoy taking photos in the area, and we’ve got some practical tips for making the most of your shooting time.

- Timing is (almost) everything: this is a tropical island, and that means bright sunlight and sudden rain are both super common. If you aim for the early morning and the late afternoon, you’ll get the fewest showers, best light and smallest crowds (well, for that last one, early mornings are the key; late afternoons can get busy).
- Respect the local culture: you should always ask for permission before taking photos of the locals or in sacred places like temples. In most cases, people will be delighted to let you shoot. Make sure to follow the dress code if you enter temple grounds, though.
- Gear up: you can get great shots with a smartphone camera, of course, but if you want the best images, you want a DSLR or mirrorless with a nice wide-angle lens. A tripod (particularly a portable one like a Gorillapod) can also help to elevate your shots. Drones are great, but unfortunately, the laws regarding their use are complicated in Indonesia, now, and you need permission from local landowners and authorities to use them in most places.
- Stay connected: if you have a local SIM, they’re cheap and offer lots of data to keep you online, but if not, most cafes and places like FINNS Beach Club offer free Wi-Fi.
- Plan your route: Canggu traffic can be awful, even though Canggu itself is pretty small, so make efficient use of your time and try not to backtrack too often.
