Best Thai Food Canggu, Bali: Where To Get The Authentic Taste Of Thailand

Canggu, Bali is, of course, in Indonesia but it’s also part of ASEAN the association of Southeast Asian nations and one of those nations is Thailand.

Indonesians, like people all over the world, have become very partial to the food from their close ally in this part of the world and you can find a surprising number of excellent Thai restaurants in Canggu, the most popular part of Bali.

We can recommend all of these places as serving authentic and tasty Thai cuisine and most of them are surprisingly reasonably priced too.

Our 16 Best Thai Restaurants Canggu

Monsoon

Monsoon has rather more than Thai food on the menu because it can draw on 7 different kitchens operating within FINNS Beach Club in Berawa.

The best Thai dish on the menu, for our money at least, is the Thai Sticky Pork Belly with a Thai salad, it’s so juicy and flavorful that we could eat it every single day and never get bored of it.

There’s also an amazing cocktail menu to help you wash each course down and, of course, some of the best entertainment on the island, Monsoon is Bali’s premier party restaurant.

Anaga Restaurant

We can think of no better spot for some yam woon sen than Anaga which is a completely authentic local Thai place with excellent service.

The interior is very light and breezy with some lovely views out of the windows. The chicken green curry is one of our favorites here as is the panang vegetable curry.

We’re also big fans of their delicious lemongrass tea which is an ideal accompaniment to the food here.

KHAO Canggu

KHAO is a very upscale restaurant for a Thai restaurant in Canggu, but make sure to check Grab before you go – they often have a coupon for a 20% discount when you dine in here.

The food is bursting with flavour and every dish is authentic and wonderfully presented, The Mama Tom Yum Soup is one of our absolute favorites.

We are also big fans of the oyster omelet and the Thai skewers take us back to our days in Chiang Mai.

Thai Kitchen Canggu

This very basic Thai Kitchen is one of the cheapest places to eat in Canggu and you can easily get a meal and a drink for less than 50,000 IDR! (That’s $3 USD or $5 AUD).

Yet, they are still happy to adjust the spice levels in every dish to suit our more delicate Western palettes and the food is extremely delicious.

There are a couple of Bali dogs at this restaurant, but don’t worry they’re very friendly and are always delighted to make new friends.

Paed Thai Canggu

The best thing at Pade Thai Canggu, a restaurant where pretty much everything is sensational, is the soft shell crab (it’s only on the menu occasionally and it sells out really quickly – so grab it if you can).

However, we’d also be happy to rave about their Thai pork belly for an hour or so tow, it’s just so tender and juicy.

If you’re really lucky, then they will help you clear your palette at the end of the night with some free ice cream, Thai-style.

Bird’s Nest Thai Kitchen Canggu

The pork pad krapow here is the perfect blend of sweetness and saltiness and we love that crispy fried egg that they lay on top of it.

This is also one of the only places where you can try Rad Na in Bali, for some reason many of the other Thai restaurants don’t have it on their menu.

Best of all, the portions here are huge and relatively inexpensive, you can really push the boat out and try a bunch of different dishes at Bird’s Nest.

Oh My Thai – Batu Mejan

This place is one of the more refined Thai eateries in Canggu and the prices reflect that and the quality of the ingredients that they use.

Try their creamy chicken tom yum and you’ll be reaching for the menu to order everything, it’s just so delicious!

The pineapple fried rice is also bursting with flavour and we think their yellow curry is the best we’ve tried here in Bali.

Thaiphoon

We love that they’ve made an effort with the name at this place and we’re also impressed with the amount of onsite parking they have for both bikes and cars.

Their indoor seating area is well air-conditioned and it’s neat and clean. If you want a comfortable, cool spot in the afternoon, you can’t go wrong here.

Best of all on the menu are their Thai desserts – the mango sticky rice makes us feel like we’re back in Bangkok and the cassava is excellent too.

Warung Tom Kah

Tom Kah is where you go for a quick feed and you simply can’t resist the taste of Thailand but want to keep your spending reasonable.

Their Thai Green Curry is legendary among expats in the know and they also offer a huge range of plant-based dishes that really make the best use of Thai vegetables.

We’d also recommend that you check out the papaya salad, but make sure to ask them to tone down the spice, unless you love to breathe fire.

WASIA

This spot serves Thai, Vietnamese and Western food and thus, it’s the ideal spot for a group of people who aren’t quite certain what to eat when they go out for the night.

The Thai food is superlative and while we do enjoy dining inside this place, we prefer to go out on the garden terrace and enjoy a meal as the sun sets over the local rice fields.

The Pad Thai is excellent, but the spicy coconut and shrimp soup takes the taste sensation to another level.

Rice Republic

This small restaurant has a very simple menu of Asian dishes, that include some Thai favourites and excellent friendly staff to help you make an informed decision on what to eat.

The portions are always huge and their Tom Yum is absolutely superb – you won’t spend a fortune on your food either.

The owner often likes to surprise new diners with some free pineapple fritters to end their first meal here in style too!

Chow Chow’s menu draws from many different cuisines as well as Thai food and it’s all beautifully put together and packs a delicious punch for the tastebuds.

The decor inside is very cool and it’s a great spot to grab some Instagram shots before you are seated and start working on the menu.

It’s excellent value for money and the restaurant regularly has special offers that make your money go even further when you visit.

Miss Ginger

Miss Ginger’s menu spans more than just Thai food but given that they do one of the best Pad Thais that we’ve ever had – they made it onto this list all the same.

It’s a little more expensive than some of the other Thai restaurants on this list, but that reflects the nice decor and beautifully presented high quality food.

And while it’s not very Thai, they also have a taco Tuesday with tacos for just 15,000 IDR each! (That’s $1 USD or $1.50 AUD). You can’t say fairer than that.

555 Thai

This is, actually, “Ha Ha Ha Restaurant” (the Thai word for five is “ha”) which shows just how authentic the place is when your evening starts with a sly nod to the language of the cuisine.

We love going here on a Monday night when they have large bowls of Thai curry for just 50,000 IDR (that’s about $3 USD or $5 AUD).

That’s unbeatable value for money and if you’re going out as a large group with a more limited budget, 555 Thai can be the perfect place to have fun without breaking the bank.

Thailicious Canggu

Thailicious offers some amazing views over the rice fields of Canggu and we’d be happy to come here just to sit and let the world go by.

However, the food is first rate and it’s very reasonably priced and quite beautifully presented in sustainable wooden bowls.

The Tom Yum and Thai Mixed Salad are our favourites at this spot, but we’ve never had a bad meal at Thailicious. It’s a great place for a casual meal with friends.

Island Wok Berawa

The majority of the dishes on the menu at Island Wok are Chinese not Thai but they do offer an interesting range of fusion dishes and they touch on Thai quite often.

They’re very happy to adjust your food to your dietary needs which makes this a great place for those with gluten intolerance or religious preferences.

We would also note that they have an excellent plant-based menu and their vegetarian spring rolls, a Thai favourite, are awesome.
